Future Developments

We have the following plans, as other commitments permit.

1. Implement the Transmit side

The QRP2001 was always envisaged as a transceiver, but our original plans were dramatically altered when we found that the '3253 switch does not perform well as an up-converter! We are now just starting work on a quadrature up-converter based on a relatively new device from Maxim. We hope to publish details soon.

2. Improved VFO

There is some evidence, such as the slightly reduced sensitivity at 21MHz, that receive performance is currently limited by VFO signal purity. Jan has started work on prototyping a new multi-band VFO which has been designed specifically for very low phase noise. It will be some time before we know how effective this design is, but watch this space.

3. Extra facilities within the PC 'front-end' software

...including scanning, searching, a simple band-scope...and much more! If anyone tries using the PC control software, we would like to hear your ideas on other facilities which you would find useful.

4. The three of us going out for a beer and NOT discussing the project.
