The QRP2001 Team

Here is a picture (33KB) of three of us receiving the Trowbridge and District Amateur Radio Club constructor's cup for the QRP2000. G0XAR is holding the cup, G0BBL is the man in the check shirt and M0PUB is on the right. In the background is the club chairman, Frank G4YXS and the lady is Georgina, widow of Peter, G3BQY, founder member of the club.

G0BBL

My name is Jan Verduyn and I have held the UK Callsign G0BBL since 1970.  I was first licenced at the age of 17 with the Dutch call PA0VDR. After many years as a Radio Officer in the Merchant Marine I came ashore 10 years ago and embarked on a new career working for Motorola in the Cellular industry. My main interest is Electronic design &  Home construction and I have built most types of direct conversion receivers. Other interests are playing Blues and Folk Harmonica and Table Tennis, which I play at local clublevel standard.  I am a member of the RSGB and the GQRP Club.

[Editor's note: although too modest to admit it, Jan is also something of an authority on several classic radio receivers and transmitters. His latest notes on the Redifon R551N receiver can be found here]

G0XAR

My name is Steve Farthing. I am 46 years old and work as a development manager in the IT industry. I hold a Class A Ham radio licence and am the European Representative for the NORCAL QRP Club.I also belong the the G QRP Club and the RSGB. Other interests are vintage motorcycles and the Greatful Dead.

G8BTR

My name is John Law. I am a retired Mathematics Teacher and I live in West Yorkshire. I gained my Amateur Licence in 1968, taught the RAE in Bradford College for many years and am a member of the RSGB & G-QRP Clubs. My main hobby is the construction of anything from a kitchen to a spectrum analyser. I am particularly interested in the beautiful simplicity of the QRP2001 and its future development.

[Another editor's note: John is the latest addition to our team. He's a bit of a wizard at PCB design, which until now has been a bottleneck in the design process. Welcome to the team, John!]

M0PUB

My name is Alan Rowe. I studied electronics at Imperial College, but quickly sold my soul to Programming in the interests of greater financial gain. I have been a professional software engineer for almost twenty years now, and specialise in real-time embedded control systems. In my spare time I am a keen gardener (when the weather is good) and consumer of alcoholic beverages (regardless of weather). I still keep my hardware skills finely honed by embarking on ambitious DIY radio projects which never quite work, but luckily my main contribution to this project was the control software.

The QRP2001 control board is just one example of the amateur radio projects which I have developed around PIC processors. This digital SWR display for power meters is another.

Contact Us

To avoid any difficulties with our employers we have decided that all mail to the team will be managed via Steve's personal account. This means that Steve batches mail for Jan and Alan and forwards it weekly, at worst. We will get back to you when we can. We are all busy men so if it takes a week or two please try to understand. We have no idea what interest the project will generate, if it is substantial we will investigate the provision of a mailing list and a page of FAQS.

If you have a query about the main board please email Jan, a VFO or control board query, email Alan, and Steve for anything else.
